M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story has been one of the BIGGEST surprises of the year as it rocked the box office over the weekend. Sushant Singh Rajput, Kiara Advani and Disha Patani’s film has been the talk of the town ever since it released. Not only have the critics liked the film, the audience have been raving about it too. Apart from that, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story has done very well at the box office too. Sushant Singh Rajput’s film has collected Rs 66 crore in 3 days to become the second highest weekend grosser of 2016 after Salman Khan’s Sultan.

Apart from that, Sushant Singh Rajput‘s M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story has achieved a very unique record too! Yes, the movie has beaten Priyanka Chopra‘s Mary Kom, Farhan Akhtar’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Sonam Kapoor’s Neerja to become the highest weekend grossing biopic ever! M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story earned Rs 66 crore in 3 days, while Bhaag Milkha Bhaag had earned Rs 32.08 crore, Mary Kom had earned Rs 28 crore and Neerja had earned Rs 22.01 crore. This means M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story has beaten the nearest biopic by double the margin. Cool na? This is obviously possible coz M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story is based on the life of India’s current ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Not only is he a legend, we all know how much people in India follow and worship cricket. So a relevant cricketer’s film would obviously work well. But we never expected it to do SO well. However, when Aamir Khan‘s Dangal releases this might change. However, we should not take away anything from M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story as it has performed more than expected and is Sushant’s highest weekend opener too! And as we told you above, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story has beaten the likes of Shah Rukh Khan‘s Fan, Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 3 and Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi to become the second highest weekend grosser of 2016. However, it couldn’t touch the weekend collections of Salman Khan‘s Sultan at all.

However, our trade expert – Amul Mohan (Editor of Super Cinema) had revealed to us that M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story would collect Rs 50 over the weekend. He had mentioned to us, “M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story has opened phenomenally. For a non-holiday day, the occupancy and numbers are crazy! I can’t get a ticket too… The occupancy is well over 60 per cent across all the territories in India. So it is really big that way. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a relevant player for India right now. The craze about him, anything Dhoni does is BIG. Everything’s coming together very well for the movie and it will open BIG! I had told you earlier that it would make Rs 40 crore over the weekend, but now I think it will be close to the Rs 50 crore mark over the weekend after looking at the current trends after the few morning shows.” But with M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story earning Rs 66 crore, the film has performed more than expected and hence, should deserve all the accolades
