The 2012 gang rape case in Delhi shook society with the sheer brutality of the crime. Today, the Supreme Court announced the verdict of death penalty for the four convicts who had beaten, gang-raped and tortured the victim inside a bus. The apex court said, “The Nirbhaya rape-cum-murder case is rarest of rare case and we are compelled to give extreme punishment to ensure justice.” As per reports, the decision of the Supreme Court was greeted with applause. The public sentiment demanded the strictest of punishments for the convicted, and the Court delivered that. Akshay, Pawan, Vinay Sharma and Mukesh were given the death sentence by a trial court in 2013. They challenged the Court in 2014. The top court in its statement said, “The brutal, barbaric, and demonaical conduct of the convicts shook the conscience of humanity and they don’t deserve leniency.”

Nirbhaya, the 23-year-old medical student was returning after watching a movie with a friend. She and her male friend were brutalised on the bus. While we was thrown out of the moving bus, she got gang-raped and brutalised. “Only the death penalty (will do) for culprits now, it should not be denied,” Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi had said in a statement. However, the lawyer for the convicts AP Singh said they will review the order and no one could be sentenced to death to send out a message to society. Celebs have taken to Twitter and congratulated the Supreme Court on serving justice.

We can see the verdict of the Supreme Court has been lauded by our celebs who feel that the criminals totally deserved it. The verdict was announced by Dipak Misra who is extremely sensitive towards women rights’ and other judges were Ashok Bhushan and R Banumathi.
