The television fight is on between Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 11, Akshay Kumar’s Great Indian Laughter Challenge, Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati 9 and Shilpa Shetty’s Super Dancer 2…who do you think will emerge as the ultimate winner?
This season has been an extremely competitive one for non fiction shows on TV. We have seen a host of Bollywood stars descend on the small screen in these two months. From the megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Kaun Banega Crorepati 9 to Salman Khan on Bigg Boss 11 or say Akshay Kumar on Great Indian Laughter Challenge, the weekends/weekdays have been about new shows hosted by big stars. The winner has of course been Mr Bachchan with KBC 9 winning audiences in the urban market. The show is registering TRPs over 2.5 constantly and has made Sony TV the number one channel in the country. So, what is the draw of our Bollywood hunks on the small screen. We have done a small analysis based on the TRPs of the first episode of these shows. Here is a detailed look into their popularity with TV viewers. Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 11 premiere episode – 2.9
The Bollywood hunk proved that he is a massive force to reckon with. The first episode of Bigg Boss 11 scored 2.9 a stupendous rating under any circumstance. Fans of the controversial reality show got to see their star earlier than expected. The padosi concept was also damn intriguing. However, the weekday ratings of the show are around 1.6 to 1.9. The late timing and risque content are deterrents for family audiences.
Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati 9 premiere episode – 2.6
He might be 75 but Big B is a strong contender in Bollywood and TV too. The opening episode got a TRP of 2.6 and the show has only grown in strength. It benefits from its timing, which is proper prime time. The episode featuring the winner got 4 and 3.9 points that are simply staggering. We loved KBC 9 this season with Big B interacting with real life heroes.
Shilpa Shetty’s Super Dancer 2 premiere episode – 2.3
The battle between dance shows is huge this season with Dance Champions posing a huge competition. However, Shilpa Shettys super dancer has trumped Dance Champions. The show has the right mix of great talent, emotions and star power. The kids are phenomenal and it is a pure family show. Last year was a huge success with the finale garnering fabulous TRPs and this season is showing the same promise.
Akshay Kumar‘s Great Indian Laughter Challenge premiere episode – 1.1
Akshay Kumar made a comeback on TV after a long time and we were damn excited. The first season was a cult and gave us talents like Kapil Sharma, Ehsaan Qureshi and Sunil Pal to name a few. This season is a colossal disappointment and has failed to strike a chord with fans. The lines given to Akshay Kumar are very poor and the general TV audience cannot relate to the panel.
Finally, going by inaugural episode statistics it is Salman Khan who has grabbed the eyeballs. Big B has managed to be a outright winner with KBC 9. Shilpa is doing decently well and we hope that Akshay gets better.
