Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani didn’t give Ranbir Kapoor his highest opening day collection but this flop film of his did. Prepared to get SHOCKED!
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was a perfect Diwali release. It had fun, romance, cheer, festivity, pain, heartbreak and some really cool songs. That helped the film to march ahead of its competition Shivaay over the Diwali weekend. The film’s international earnings are even bigger which has helped it to enter the 100 crore club with its worldwide collections. In fact, Ranbir Kapoor and Karan Johar got their highest overseas opening weekend with this. In fact, despite the clash, the film managed to earn over 30 crore in the domestic circuit over the weekend. The film even opened with a really good 13. 30 cr last Friday. But it isn’t Ranbir’s highest opening day gross at all. And you will be shocked to know the film that gave him his highest opening day collection ever. Any guesses? No, it isn’t Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Okay, brace yourself, it’s none other than Besharam.

Yes you can take a moment to let that sink in as we kid you not. Besharam did superb business on its first day to take home 21. 56 cr. Yes, that was the number. Now there are reasons why it happened. Besharam was Ranbir’s next film after the blockbuster Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, the actor’s biggest hit as of now. He was riding on the popularity wave. People were going gaga over his Bunny act and to be honest, the trailer of Besharam wasn’t bad either. In fact, a few of the songs did pick up rather well. Buoyed by his euphoria, people thronged to watch Besharam which released in the same year. No wonder that the film got such a good response on the first day. In fact, the opening weekend too was more than ADHM (34. 60 cr). But later people realised the film doesn’t have any merit and eventually it turned out to be a flop.

ADHM is going great guns. After an amazing four day weekend and massive numbers from overseas, Ranbir’s labour for love has worked tremendously well. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil earned Rs 7.63 crore on Wednesday, to take its 6-day tally to Rs 74.01 crore. It is sure to touch the 100 crore mark in the domestic market in the second weekend as there are no great releases this Friday. It will only work in its favour.
