Ajay Devgn, Sayyeshaa Saigal and Erika Kaar’s Shivaay continues its decent run at the domestic box office over the first weekend as it collects Rs 28.56 crore in 3 days…
Ajay Devgn, Sayyeshaa Saigal and Erika Kaar’s Shivaay had a decent run at the box office during the first weekend as it remained steady throughout the first weekend. The movie was slow to start and only managed to have an occupancy of about 20 per cent across 2100 screens on day 1 (Friday). Shivaay collected Rs 10.24 crore on Friday and Rs 10.06 on Saturday (day 2) to garner a decent start. However, on day 3, Shivaay saw a HUGE drop as it collected just Rs 8.26 crore on Sunday, to take its overall tally to Rs 28.56 crore at the end of the first weekend.

But, there is no need to worry as the drop was due to the ongoing festivities and with two days of holiday to follow, we expect the movie to see a HUGE growth. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also agrees as he tweeted, “Diwali pooja and festivities made a dent in the biz of #ADHM and #Shivaay on Sun… Biz should witness an UPWARD TREND on Mon and Tue.” Talking about the detailed collections, Taran mentioned in his tweet, “#Shivaay Fri 10.24 cr, Sat 10.06 cr, Sun 8.26 cr. Total: ₹ 28.56 cr. India biz.”

Shivaay was shot extensively in Bulgaria and hence, the budget of the movie on the higher side, a little more than Rs 100 crore including the publicity and advertising costs. And according to early estimates, Shivaay was supposed to touch the Rs 40-45 crore mark by the end of the first weekend. Trade expert and Editor of Super Cinema, Amul Vikas Mohan also agreed with us when he mentioned to us EXCLUSIVELY, “I feel that Shivaay can make Rs 50-75 crore over the weekend. The film can easily collect Rs 12-13 crore on day one (Friday), Rs 15 crore on day two (Saturday) and Rs 16 crore on day three. This means the film will have collected nearly Rs 45 crore over the weekend, These are the bare minimum numbers and if the film picks up after Saturday, we can see a huge growth, so the film can easily earn Rs 50-75 crore over the weekend.”

However, that did not happened. In fact, the movie saw a dip on Sunday. But don’t worry coz this was bound to happen due to the festivities. The main litmus test is today (day 4 or the first Monday). We expect the film to see a huge growth today and our trade expert Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) explains why the makers should not worry right now. As he told us earlier, “Shivaay is releasing on Dhanteras, which is two days before Diwali, that is traditionally not that great a day for film business. Usually the week before Diwali is supposed to be very flat for movies, but even if the numbers aren’t massive for the film on day one, it is really no reflection of where it is heading. In fact, Shivaay will jump from the day after Diwali, which is the first Monday (day 4). With all due respect to Salman Khan‘s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and this films, the day after Diwali is always supposed to be the best day for film business. So while day one and day two won’t be that great for Shivaay, day 3 will be good and day 4 will be phenomenal for the film.”

For the uninitiated, Shivaay is based on the father-daughter duo of Ajay and Abigail Eames. The movie has a lot stunning action sequences and breath taking visuals that have been praised. Ajay Devgn’s acting and direction have been applauded too, but the length of the movie is the aspect that might be hampering Shivaay.
