en it came to 2017 Golden Globes beauty, the night was a bit of a throwback, with attendees’ looks referencing some of the most glamorous and iconic stars of the ‘60s, ‘70s and beyond. Mandy Moore’s look was created by the Streicher sisters to complement her plunging, caped navy Naeem Khan gown. “I wanted to make the look classic red carpet, but with a touch of ‘70s for that classy, sexy, chic vibe,” says hairstylist Ashley Streicher. “Think Lauren Hutton’s ‘70s gala vibe — cool, yet sultry.”
The whole ensemble was a complete collaboration between Ashley, her sister (and makeup artist) Jenn Streicher, Moore and her stylist, Erica Cloud. With the dress’ low-cut neck, they decided her hair should be down, but off her decolletage. “Then, with her hair back and soft, we thought of going with the ‘70s lighter nude lip and a sultry eye, which would work best with her huge, pale pink diamond earrings,” says Ashley.
While the This Is Us star’s image in the past has maybe felt a bit more wholesome, Ashley says they were keen to step outside the box for the Golden Globes “because she’s a nominee and really has some momentum.” With her daring dress, adds Ashley, “We wanted to play up how hot she is. She’s such a chic, classy woman, but tonight, we wanted to show the sexier side.”
The beauty experts had a few tricks up their sleeves when it came to prepping Moore for her sultry turn on the red carpet. For one, Ashley dealt with Moore’s long bangs by using a few Skin Weft tape-in hair extensions near the part where her bangs were in order to add length and make for a sleeker look. Jenn used her go-to Caudalie Beauty Elixir spray ($49) both before and after makeup application “to achieve a beautiful glow.” And she mixed three Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour lipsticks ($28) — Indiscretion, Embrace and a touch of Aroused — to achieve the ultimate nude pout.
