Hollywood’s favorite style stars showed their support for this year’s finalists, including Adam Selman, Stampd’s Chris Stamp and Newbark’s Maryam and Marjan Malakpour.
Following events hosted by Elle and InStyle magazines in Los Angeles on Monday night, Vogue hosted its annual fashion show for emerging designers at the Chateau Marmont on Wednesday afternoon, rounding out a week full of fashion events designed to attract the attention of celebrities and Hollywood imagemakers in the run-up to awards-show season.
Katy Perry (wearing a white Rodarte gown straight off the spring 2017 runway and Eva Fehren jewelry) and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (in a pinstripe corset, off-the-shoulder shirt look and trousers by Monse, also straight off the spring runway) joined Emma Stone (wearing a sweet ruffled skirt and blouse by Brock collection), Kristen Stewart and girlfriend St. Vincent, Ciara and other celebs at Vogue’s fashion show in the garden at the Chateau Marmont.

L.A.’s stylish set was on hand, too, including jewelry designer Irene Neuwirth, jewelry designer Jen Meyer, cashmere king Greg Chait, eveningwear designer Juan Carlos Obando, shoe designer George Esquivel, interior designer Brigette Romanek, stylists Emily Current and Meritt Elliott, Cher Coulter and more.
The event was hosted for the first time by Kate Spade New York creative director Deborah Lloyd, who was wearing a flora-and-fauna embroidered dress from the label’s spring 2017 collection. “I love supporting these young designers,” she said.
Everyone was gathered to celebrate the latest class of Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists and check out a runway show of their latest collections. From Vogue, fashion news director Mark Holgate and West Coast editor Lisa Love hosted, but editor-in-chief Anna Wintour did not make the trip to L.A. this year.

The runway show itself was a rollicking, didn’t-take-itself-too-seriously good time, that included a jazz band, bubble guns, a dog, a baby goat, a baby, ballet dancers on pointe, stilettos served up on silver platters and more, all of which helped to showcase the designers’ collections in a unique and entertaining way.
Standouts included mismatched loafers (trend alert!) from rock ‘n’ roll stylists turned accessories designers Maryam and Marjan Malakpour of Newbark (styled with varsity jackets, collegiate-looking pencil skirts and colored tights, and bouffant hairdos) and pastoral-looking toile dresses and romantic blouses from Newport Beach, Calif.-based Brock, which were worn by models toting the aforementioned baby goat and baby person.

Other finalists who showed their collections: L.A.-based Chris Stamp, whose menswear label Stampd is already a hit with Justin Bieber; the mustachioed Adam Selman, who made his name as a stylist for Rihanna and showed oversized, ’80s inspired fun wear; candy striped pj and lounge wear line Morgan Lane; New Orleans-based, Gigi Hadid-approved eyewear brand Krewe du Optic; shoe designer Chloe Gosselin; menswear label Rochambeau; and womenswear labels Ji Oh and Area.
After the show, guests gathered inside for tea and cake (served on Kate Spade New York dishes, natch).
The CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund began in 2003 and over the years has supported a number of American designers with funding and mentorship, including Thom Browne, Rodarte and Elder Statesman. The winners will be announced Nov. 7 in New York.
