Ang Lee‘s new movie, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk is based on a book by the same name. The director who is known for his visionary projects, has decided that the novel is challenging enough to be his next project. Challenging how? We will get to it in a moment, but before that let’s talk about what made Ang Lee one of the best directors that we have now. Ang Lee was brought to worldwide prominence for making kung fu drama, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon that won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He had the guts to make a gay cowboy love story with two mainstream stars, and didn’t flinch those raw love making scenes in Brokeback Mountain. Above all, he did the unthinkable when he made a film on the novel, Life of Pi, which was deemed to be unfilmable, and it turned out be a visual masterpiece that won a few awards at the Academy Awards.
While you may not have guessed much from the trailers, even Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, like Life of Pi, is going to be a novel treat visually. The makers have used an unprecedented shooting and projection frame rate of 120 frames per second in 3D at 4K HD resolution, making it the first film to use that revolutionary technique. The film has also got a lot of appreciation from the critics for its visual panache.
Apart from the visual flair, the film also boasts of an ensemble cast, prominent among those are:
If we have to give the award for the luckiest newcomer in the entire world, Joe Alwyn would win the award hands down. Not only is his first film being directed by an Oscar winner, he is also playing the title character as well. Joe has already got a lot of appreciation from the early reviews, with a few claiming that he is a star to watch out.
The Twilight star plays Billy Lynn’s elder sister in the film, who has a very close bond with the hero. Unlike others who are only seeing his heroism, only she can sense his inner turmoil. Kristen Stewart has been moving to more dramatic roles ever since the Twilight franchise has ended, and it is believed that she has done an incredible job here as well.
You would not have to wait for xXx: Return of Xander Cage to see Vin Diesel back on big screen, as Vin Diesel plays a small but important part in the film. He plays Shroom, one of the senior members of Lynn’s military outfit, who act as his mentor.
The funnyman plays the team owner of Dallas Cowboys, an American football team for whose match Billy Lynn and his squad is making their walk.
Another funnyman is also a part of the Ang Lee war drama. Chris Tucker plays a Hollywood agent desperate to get the squad to sign a deal, where he can make a film based on their war exploits.
The good looking star known for his roles in films like Pan, Four Brothers, Unbroken and Troy, will be playing the leader of the outfit to which Billy Lynn is a part of.
Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk is scheduled to release on November 11. Watch the trailer here…
