Earlier this year, when a popular award show announced its nominations, there was a lot of hue and cry on social media as Akshay Kumar was not nominated for his Airlift performance which received rave reviews from the critics and audience. Singer and composers Amaal Malik too dissed the Indian film awards for nominating “star kids” and “seniors” and not the deserving talent. In his Facebook post, he went on to say, ” It is so funny & surprising that you go out of your way and give a star kid all the newcomer awards for the best debut, for a performance no one even saw…..Whereas a #DiljitDosanjh who deserved that award for #UdtaPunjab is nowhere !! #Sarbjit had #RandeepHooda almost kill himself to bones, and play that character, and you nominate only #AishwaryaRaiBachchan hahahahaha !” And now Akshay winning the National Film Award has created a ruckus.

We recently got a chance to meet the very talented Vidya Balan and asked the actress her opinion on film awards. The actress has received quite a few awards in the past and is very grateful for them. Vidya said, ” I think it is wonderful to be appreciated for your work. I have received quite a few awards for my work and I am quite grateful so I don’t want to diss the awards. I don’t know about everyone getting an award, I can’t comment on that but I just think you need to be a graceful loser also. Some years you lose, some years you win, what the hell! I attended awards this year despite knowing I did not have too much of a shot at winning but you go and applaud other people’s work. ” We hope there are more stars who have an approach similar to the actress and come out in support of their colleagues.

Begum Jaan which releases on April 14 is directed by Srijit Mukherji and is produced by Vishesh Films. Apart from Vidya, the film also stars Gauahar Khan, Pallavi Sharda, Ila Arun and Chunky Pandey in key roles.
