Holy moly! Is Zendaya Coleman the new Mary Jane Watson for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’?! We knew she would appear in the film, but now a new report claims she will play the famous redhead. Of course, fans are losing their minds over the shocking news. See their reactions, right here!

Oh my gosh, this is so cool! Deadline originally reported that Zendaya Coleman was cast in the new film Spider-Man: Homecoming, but she was expected to play a character named Michelle. However, on Aug. 18, The Wrap revealed that the stunning actress and singer would aallegedly take on the famous role of Mary Jane Watson, formerly played by the wonderful Kirsten Dunst!

Of course, Mary Jane was Peter Parker’s longtime love interest with striking red hair, and traditionally she has been drawn as/portrayed by a white woman. Now (although unconfirmed) it sounds like Mary Jane may get a mixed-race makeover, as Zendaya is African-American, German and Scottish. We think she’s going to absolutely slay the part, but of course there was immediate controversy on Twitter between progressive film-goers and comic book purists.
