Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma-starrer Bombay Velvet was a dream project for director Anurag Kashyap. The filmmaker did an extensive research to give the authentic look of Bombay (now Mumbai) in the ’60s. But unfortunately, the mega project which was made on a whopping budget of over Rs 100 crore earned merely around Rs 24 crore and turned out to be a huge disaster at the box office. But did you know RK was not the first choice for the Johny Balraj character?

Yes, Anurag Kashyap had earlier approached another actor and he was none other than the live-wire of Bollywood, Ranveer Singh. However, he couldn’t sign on the dotted line since he had already given the dates for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Rasleela… Ram Leela. Well, this decision has surprisingly turned out to be a lucky for Ranveer Singh as Ram Leela turned out to be a game-changer for his acting career. Apart from becoming his first Rs 100 crore film, SLB’s film also brought him accolade globally. Post this Ranveer collaborated with Bhansali for Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, which turned out be blockbusters at the ticket windows. On the work front, Ranveer has three projects in his kitty. First being Rohit Shetty’s masala entertainer Simmba, where he essays the character of a kickass cop. The film is the official remake of Jr NTR’s Temper and is set to hit the screens on December 28. Post that, he will feature in Gully Boy opposite Alia Bhatt, where he will be seen as a rapper. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the film has been wrapped up and is scheduled to hit the screens on February 14, 2019, during Valentine’s Day weekend. Ranveer’s third project will be quite challenging one as he will essay the role of legendary cricketer Kapil Dev in Kabir Khan’s ’83. The sports drama will showcase the glorious journey of Indian cricket team winning the 1983 world cup. ’83 will release on April 5, 2019
