Donald Trump got blasted this morning for tweeting his support for women on International Women’s Day, precisely because his administration is doing its utmost to promote policies which hurt women and especially their health/ That’s why you need to stand up for women today and every day.
Donald Trump, how dare you tweet that you have “tremendous respect for women and the many roles they serve that are vital to the fabric of our society and our economy” today, March 8. when you and your Republican Congress are doing everything in your power to take away healthcare for women. The new Republican-sponsored American Healthcare Act that would repeal and replace Obamacare would defund Planned Parenthood, which provides health services to over 2 and a half million women every year. Over their lifetime, one in five American women will visit a Planned Parenthood clinic to get healthcare. In many parts of the country, Planned Parenthood clinics are the only place that women can get affordable mammograms, pap smears, check ups and birth control counseling.
Nevertheless, Donald Trump and his Republican party will withdraw Planned Parenthood’s $500 million in federal funding when they pass their new healthcare plan. On top of that, they are setting up a series of tax credits for health insurance that will effectively make it impossible for you and every other women to get health insurance which will cover the cost of an abortion. Therefore, any woman who wants or needs an abortion will have to cover the cost — anywhere from a few hundred dollars for a very early abortion to tens of thousands of dollars for a middle trimester abortion — our of their own pockets.
